Baltimore - Xiamen Sister City Committee

An International Partnership

2010 China Business & Trade Mission

The Maryland-China Business Council, the Maryland-Anhui Sister State Committee, and the BXSSC are joining forces to form a business and trade mission to China in September 2010. Led by Maryland Secretary of State John P. McDonough, the trip will facilitate business with China through matchmaking sessions with Chinese companies and high-level meetings with industry and government leaders in Shanghai, Beijing, Hefei, and Xiamen.

2010 is the 15th anniversary of the MCBC, 25th anniversary of the BXSSC, and the 30th anniversary of the MAPSSC. Please join us in celebrating these long-term relationships between the US and our Chinese partners!

About the Committee

In 1985, a delegation of civic, business and cultural leaders led by then Baltimore Mayor William Donald Schaefer traveled to Xiamen, Fujian Province, China to establish a Sister City relationship. In June 1986, Xiamen Mayor Zou Erjun reciprocated with a visit to Baltimore.

Since then, both cities have enjoyed a vibrant relationship with many visits and successful projects. As China’s economic and political importance continues to grow, this relationship has become a key part of Baltimore’s international strategy.

The Baltimore-Xiamen relationship is managed by a committee of private-sector volunteers appointed by Baltimore's Office of the Mayor. Xiamen is one of 11 Sister Cities relationships which are guided by the Office's Sister Cities Program. All Sister Cities are established under the Sister Cities International Program.
